Deadline Asserts Legal Precedence Over Bill, Officials Confirm
The midnight marker on the thirtieth has formally intervened in the legislative process, citing its own temporal authority to finalize the statute.

The bill regarding municipal zoning adjustments, which had stalled in committee for four days, was signed into law at 11:58 a.m. by the midnight deadline itself, a legislative clerk confirmed.
The deadline, identified in the session minutes as 'the active participant,' did not require a pen. It simply waited until the clock struck the appointed hour, at which point the ink on the document darkened and the margins aligned with the official registry.
“The deadline has been quite helpful in recent sessions,” said a spokesperson for the House Administration Committee. “It knows exactly when to stop listening. It has a very low tolerance for procedural delay.”
Legal scholars note that the deadline’s intervention was technically within its rights, as it had been listed on the bill’s header as a required signatory since the draft was first circulated in January.

The Office of Completed Journeys has updated its intake forms to include a field for 'anticipated temporal finality,' which must be signed by the deadline before the law can be considered fully settled. This field is currently blank for the thirtieth, though the deadline has stated it will not sign until it is sure the other parties have finished their remarks.
The deadline has not requested a vote of confidence, but it has begun arriving early for scheduled legislative sessions, standing in the back of the chamber and observing the debate with what one clerk described as 'quiet patience.'
Other deadlines in the state have reported similar levels of engagement. The deadline for tax filings has been known to extend its own duration by a few minutes to ensure all forms are properly dried before it asserts its authority.
The bill is now in effect. The deadline remains in the chamber, though it has moved to a different chair, presumably to avoid association with the previous discussion.
Standards note Time taken at finality; the two minutes remaining were entered as legislative inventory.
The clerk entered the deadline’s address as 12:00 a.m. The registry accepted it after requesting a postal code twice.
